When should you go to the dentist? Most people think about heading to the dentist whenever they feel a toothache coming on, a cavity appears, or a tooth is injured or lost. However, emergencies and problems are not the only reasons to make an appointment at DeMercy Dental. In fact, seeing your dentist on a regular basis will give the them the opportunity to spot and treat any small problems before they become larger ones.
Ideally, you should see your dentist every six months for a cleaning and exam. Your dentist will remove any plaque and tartar that you may have missed while brushing, and look for indications of tooth decay, gum disease, oral cancer, and other problems.
Remember that dental health and oral health go hand-in-hand. If you are diagnosed with a medical condition or a disease, become pregnant, or you are thinking about becoming pregnant, you should schedule an appointment with your dentist, or at least notify the office. Your dentist will also need to know if you start a new prescription, or if a current prescription has been changed.
In a dental emergency, the first phone call you make should be to the dentist’s office to schedule an appointment. Any time that you notice pain, sensitivity, a change in the color, texture or sensation in any part of your mouth, you should call for an appointment.
If you have a concern about your oral health, or if it is just time for your cleaning and exam, don’t put off your office visit. If you live in the Roswell, Georgia, area and would like to make an appointment with Dr. Jeff DeMercy and Dr. Amanda Kossick, call 770-641-8010 today.
