Being Fitted For Dentures

Posted .

Dentures are essentially removable teeth that are designed to help you regain full function of your mouth. Most people need dentures due to advanced gum disease, tooth decay or multiple extractions.

Your teeth and gums do more than simply help you chew. They also provide structure for your facial muscles and are a factor in your speech.

There might still be a few healthy teeth in your mouth that need extraction before you can be fitted for dentures. Our dentist will want to take a series of X-rays to understand the fine points of your jaw structure.

After you’ve had the initial extraction you will be fitted for a pair of temporary dentures. This will provide you with some functional chewing ability while your gums are healing and the custom dentures are being made. Healing and recovery time can vary depending on your overall health, the health of your gums and the number of teeth extracted.

Conventional dentures are the full set of artificial teeth set into a tray molded to fit into the shape of your gum line and jaw.

In time you will get used to the fit and feel of your dentures and develop a daily regimen for keeping them clean.
