Behavior to Avoid During Softball Season

Posted .

Are you a softball player? If so, you’re about ready to start your season. As you play, it’s important to keep your smile in mind. This is because there are softball habits and behaviors that can affect your smile and oral health. You want strong and healthy teeth and gums, right? Well, our dentists, Drs. DeMercy and Kossick, are happy to help you have the healthiest smile possible by encouraging you to avoid these habits and behaviors:

-Drinking sports drinks: Sports drinks contain sugar. In fact, they contain high amounts of sugar, which means that when you drink them, you can promote cavity development. You don’t want cavities, do you? So, it’s best to drink water instead.

-Using tobacco: Tobacco is very destructive. It’s one of the smile’s biggest enemies. It’s very important to avoid chewing, smoking or using tobacco altogether so you can have a strong and healthy smile.

-Chewing tooth-harming products: Gum that contains sugar can harm the smile because it can promote the development of tooth decay. Sunflower seeds can also harm the smile because the pressure involved in cracking the shells can fracture the tooth enamel. It’s best to chew sugar-free gum and shell-less seeds instead.
